Feels Good

Day two of Couch to 5K.

Hit the gym this morning just a little after 6am - did 20 minutes on the treadmill as per day two of week one of the program.   A bit of stretching beforehand, walked home after, showered, had something incredibly decent to eat (a cup of oatmeal with some trail mix and a splash of soy milk, and some mint tea), walked the 8 to 10 minutes to the Métro, another 5 minute walk to my office...feels good.  

There's something to be said for endorphins alone, and, as Warren put it, "burning off the fog" first thing in the morning.

I suspect if this keeps up, I am going to see some positive changes.

Last Week

Last week I was very good:

Monday: 90 minutes cardio on various machines at the gym
Tuesday: 45 minutes cardio on various machines at the gym
Wednesday: 90 minutes cardio on various machines at the gym
Thursday: 60 minutes cardio on various machines at the gym
Friday: 60 minutes cardio on various machines at the gym
Saturday: Approx. 1 hour of light recreational snowshoeing
Sunday: 2 hours solid snowshoeing

Today I'm taking the day off!

Last Week

Last week I was very good.

Gym every day Monday through Friday. 90 mins of cardio on 4 out of the 5 days, 60 mins of cardio on the other day (I think is was Tuesday). I'm doing the Couch-to-5K jogging program along with fearsclave, and it's coming along nicely so far. A few twinges in my left knee today, but I don't think it's anything serious. It will let me know soon enough if it is.

My gym (the downtown YMCA) now has a row of the new fancy 'bouncy' ellipticals, with TV screens, and a row of high-tech new treadmills, also with TV screens. So I can watch episodes of The Original Star Trek series on Space, or the American economy collapse on CNN while I jog. Talk about luxury.

The scale however, has refused to budge. Stupid scale.

I've been doing nothing but cardio (and tons of it) so far. I really need to get back to doing some strength exercises as well...

Quick update...or, hello? anybody out there??

I'm off and running!
(well, walking on the treadmill for 40 - 50 minutes a pop (depending on availability) - I punch in the "weight loss" program which goes from zero incline 8 in the 20-minute session. My average speed: 3.7)

We partied heartily for Christmas Eve (seafood and fish) and Christmas Day, lots of homemade baked goods, my world's best lasagna and my first-ever spiral ham, complete with fresh pineapple, fresh bing cherries, cloves and fresh orange/maple syrup glaze...but I wisely didn't continue the festivities to New Year's and we spent a quiet and relaxing NYE and day...(I even made it to the gym New Year's Eve day!)

I gained 2 lbs. back (that I had lost) and have since lost them.
I would say, this was indeed the Christmas miracle, but I was kindly reminded that I did a heck of a lot more cooking than eating... I really tried to enjoy everything, but was mindfully aware of what I did and didn't want to eat...ex: ham pretty, but not my fave, lasagna: yum and new cookie recipes HAD to be tried and evaluated ;P )

Now back to square one... the never-ending battle! (Which I am proud to say at least I never give up on!)

*Extra points for today when I told myself, "you absolutely don't have time to go" and then got out of bed, went anyways and did 35 minutes on the treadmill -- was back in a little over an hour. There's a lesson in there...surely I can take at least an hour out of my day for me...

another day, another workout...

Went the gym first thing this morning and it was a good thing, too.

It seems like I wake up with my head stuffed and a dry cough and after 50 minutes of cardio and a hot bath feel fit as a fiddle.

I made a pot of chicken soup Monday night and then put in the fridge so that any excess fat would rise to the surface. I skimmed it clear yesterday and that's what we had for supper. I am looking forward to it again today with steamed escarole.

Last week I made a cabbage soup and we ate that for lunch or supper for 3 days, until we finished it.

I think I am going to make a concentrated effort to make soup now that the weather has changed. It seems like if we have it that's what we want to eat and it's so satisfying with a bit of carbs -- whole grain bread, brown basmati or egg noodles, that it doesn't leave room for much else!

(no subject)

Went to the gym today.

I only did half my usual workout, because I'm recovering from some un-defined ick that kept me home yesterday. Also, going to the gym three times last week seems to have magically disappeared one whole pound!

Going to try and post here more often

Hit the gym this afternoon. Meant to go this morning but turned over when I saw the blowing snow and heard the howling wind!

First bit of winter...only a month early.

35 minutes on elliptical (interval program), 20 minutes on treadmill (weight loss program), hoping to kick this cold!
